With the 2020 local government election fast approaching, the Onboarding New Councils programme is designed to assist officers in building effective working relationships with the new elected member team as quickly as possible and to tackle the potential problems associated with reporting to council and ensuring quality, strategic leadership and decision-making. 

The programme will provide you with tools and advice to assist you in managing this important transition post-election, and includes two components:

1. The induction process: getting the right information together before the election will assist you in getting your new council to hit the ground running.  What information is required, how much is too much and how can you make it legible and interesting?
   
   
2.  Building relationships and a leadership culture: information is one thing, but if the leadership team is dysfunctional or mired in the operational, it will be ineffective as a leadership body.  This session will provide an in-depth exploration of tools and strategies to engage elected members quickly and appropriately with a view to building an effective leadership team. 
   These ‘soft’ approaches will consider:
   

   •   understanding motivations and drivers,
   •   developing a strategic mindset and
   •  creating trusting relationships.
