    A big group today with 27 attendees.  Notes in summary on main points across Councils

    • Staffing continues to be a challenge across tourism and agriculture in many regions that rely on international and transient travelers to make up the workforce.  Attraction strategies being considered in Douglas.  Whitsundays looking at bringing in a workforce from Tonga and what quarantine requirements are around this.  
    • Events are picking up and moving from cities to regions (Logan and Fraser Coast seeing the benefits of this).  A pain point on this is the struggle with accommodation.  Tent cities being considered an an option for the Fraser Coast. 
    • While some economies are benefitting  others are still hurting eg Whitsundays bareboat charters booked out till next year, while backpacker accom is struggling and trying to pivot.  In Port Douglas occupancy is at a high with an increased length of stay but hospitality is struggling to meet demands.  How do we manage traveler expectations and meet service standards to give the best customer experience?
    • Aviation picking up.  Whitsundays finding they are moving into a marketing airport instead of an aviation airport space.  
    • An opportunity to impress and secure first time domestic travelers who previously would have chosen to travel internationally.  
    • A huge increase in tourists to certain regions is providing a challenge around visitors not having regard for traditional land/owners and how best to educate around remoteness and waste management - Cooks/Cape 
    • Torres & Cape Alliance looking at a Tourism Management Strategy and eco-cultural tourism opportunities.  Working collaboratively with Councils where there is limited marketing dollars.  Utilising funding
    • Regional events performing well - Planes, Trains and Automobiles (Ipswich) sold out in 12hrs!   Event confidence is up.
    • On the Gold Coast some precincts performing better than others ie Southern end is reaping rewards from the domestic market while Surfers who reply more heavily on international are still hurting.  Hotels utilising downturn to bring forward investment plans and corporate hotels looking at opportunities to pivot to leisure. Looking at commercialisation of beaches - investing in beach clubs
    • Rental cars are a big issue with availability at an all time low as many companies have been forced to sell off stock or relocate to meet demand.  An ongoing challenge
    • Using this opportunity to invest and grow tourism; and tap into a larger market.  Somerset is one example where there is an upturn in day trippers, and development is on the up as people look for a tree change.  Capture the adventure market and invest in food trails.     
    • Staffing not filled in Councils at Mt Isa and Hughenden, making events planning/management a challenge.
