    Participatory Decision-Making Webinar

Participatory decision-making or deliberative engagement refers to a process where a diverse group of people is selected to meet regularly over a specified period to deliberate on a particular topic before coming to a group decision at the program’s conclusion.  It’s a thoughtful and careful discussion of a problem or an opportunity, with an equal share of community voices.

Capire Associates Denise Francisco and Mollie Rashleigh will discuss the requirements for best practice deliberative and how Queensland councils can use this approach to engage communities in the value of the local government cause. They will provide examples of Deliberative Engagement projects Capire has worked on, the secrets to their success, and why good food goes a long way.

    Managing a Remote Workforce

Gone are the days of managers and teams being co-located and eyeballing each other daily.  Remote working occurs because officers are in the field, sometimes for long periods of time, and when officers have arrangements to work from locations other than the office.  Since COVID, this has extended to people who live interstate and only intermittently travel to the council area.

For managers, leading hybrid teams creates a range of challenges and requires skills and approaches which are different from the traditional leading by observation model.

This webinar will explore the challenges of managing remote workforces and provide a series of approaches to ensure that your team is able to work together and that individuals can thrive, regardless of where they are working from.

    This panel includes:

Dan McPhersonGroup Manager People, Customer and Corporate Services, Lockyer Valley Regional Council

Mark Crawley - Chief Executive Officer, Carpentaria Shire Council

Heather KellyDirector Organisational Business Services, Cook Shire Council
