Hi all, just checking in to see what you do regards mandatory vaccinations - Not COVID.

The discussion about COVID vaccinations has highlighted a potential gap in general vaccination monitoring, for example Heb B, Hep A, Lyssavirus etc.

So first question is do you have any occupations that are required to have role-specific vaccinations?

If so, do you have a mechanism to monitor?

If yes then no, perhaps this is something we need to address and maybe we can also discuss with compliance software providers to ensure they include?

    Puttin' it out there...

Rockhampton Regional Council has various roles requiring mandatory vaccination, they are detailed our internal policy and procedure. Examples of high risk roles are Child Care Assistant, Environmental Officer, most external workers, Waste and Recycling. This information is communicated through employment contracts at the commencement of employment or change of role. Mandatory vaccinations include Hep A and B, Tetanus, Lyssavirus, Q Fever, Influenza, MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella), Chicken Pox and Whooping Cough, this can be one or a combination based on the role held. RRC maintains accurate data on staff immunisations and reporting is carried out monthly via Aurion reports and followed up with staff for any outstanding.

Yes we have occupational vaccinations identified via our fitness for work procedure, these vaccinations are in accordance with the immunisation handbook Australia 2018.  We include the requirement for vaccinations in our position descriptions (not retrospectively). These positions are then advised to undergo vaccinations and we monitor via a centralised register (Cath).  If people do not wish to have a vaccination we have a refusal form which then triggers a individual risk assessment.  We send out reminders for those requiring updated vaccinations every quarter or so.
