For officers who are new to Local Government or new to a role, finding useful information and local government knowledge in the one place can prove difficult.
Recognising this need, LGMA have introduced the ‘Things I Wish I Knew' templates for various roles across councils.
These resources aim to support officers by streamlining access to contacts and information and can be used by councils when onboarding new officers.

Business Plans are a great internal planning tool to consolidate, in one document, a Department or Branches priorities, acknowledging the resources, opportunities, restrictions, compliance requirements, business as usual requirements, etc.
Each council has its legislative and long-term planning documents, the implementation of a business plan approach would be as an operational tool that demonstrates at Department/Branch Level the resources and actions that support those planning documents. Ideally the business plan supports and influences the budget.
This document would be a localised planning and performance document for Departments/Branches, which can be owned by staff and they can see how their role fits into the delivery of Councils priorities.
The below diagram demonstrates the relationship of the business plan to other planning documents. View the template.
This ICT Strategic Framework is prepared to assist Council’s in managing and improving the way it delivers ICT services and hardware, Network Infrastructure and Data-Backup services and hardware and Cyber-Risk management and reporting.
The ICT Strategic Framework is focused on enabling councils to identify and address the below issues:
Councils seeking to meet the requirements of national cyber-risk and ICT compliance bodies such as the ACSC (Australia Cyber Security Centre) and OAIC (Office of the Australia Information Commissioner) and any other State and/or Commonwealth mandated legislation by demonstrating clear and concise analysis and principal provision for the above noted matters, may find this framework useful.
Appended to this framework suite are the following planning documents:
To implement these documents councils may wish to undertake an initial review of their ICT systems, infrastructure and essential 8 maturity status, this will provide the information available to complete this suite of documents. More information around essential 8 maturity can be found at https://www.cyber.gov.au/resources-business-and-government/essential-cyber-security/essential-eight.
