Propeller Program

One of LGMA’s signature training programs, Propeller provides delegates with the opportunity to team up with LG officers from other councils to share knowledge/information and learn about LG experiences from other Queensland councils.

Propeller is a commitment of nine workshops (2 in Brisbane and 6 at councils + the final forum, travel and team time for workshop and project commitments). It is the ideal program to learn more about LG, build networks and collaborate with other council officers working in Queensland.

This program is suitable for council officers of any age, experience, role, level and interests. It is a unique experiential learning opportunity for personal and professional development.

Key elements of the program include:

Exposing participants to a broad range of local government experiences and insights at a shire, regional and city council perspective
In small teams, participants self-manage 1-2 workshops, necessitating the use of good communication skills, a high level of negotiation and influencing skills, project management and interpersonal skills
Exploring and evaluating local government case studies and other learning materials that can be readily applied to daily leadership and management practices in a work environment

The tentative workshop dates for 2027 are:

Wed 17 March and Thurs 18 March - Introductory Forum - Brisbane

Workshops 1 and 2: 19-20 May - Councils TBC

Workshops 3 and 4: 28-29 July - Councils TBC

Workshops 5 and 6: 14-15 September - Councils TBC

Thurs 16 September: Final Forum - same location as the final workshops

Propeller 2024

The 2024 Propeller Program commenced in Brisbane on 20-21 March where the participants met for the first time!

The group spent two days together and then organised the six workshops hosted by:

Gladstone Regional Council / Rockhampton Regional Council – May

Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council / Redland City Council – June

Noosa Council / Ipswich City Council – July

Additionally, the Propeller cohort completed a project and memoir throughout the five-month program before finishing up in Brisbane in August.
