Hi everyone,
Banana Shire Council have recently commenced a
process documentation and improvement project and are seeking any networking
opportunities with other Councils who may be working on a similar project. A
more detailed overview of our project objectives is provided below for your
reference.
Are there any existing
forums/villages/communities of interest that are already talking about this
sort of work that we can join, or any Council’s interested in being part of
this conversation? We have already had contact with Isaac Regional Council, Bundaberg
Regional Council and Fraser Coast Regional Council who are interested to
collaborate and share ideas.
Our objective is to first document all our
processes into detailed work instructions for employees to follow that provide
clear practical guidance on every task in the organisation. As we are
documenting this, we will look to identify the most efficient and effective
method for each task we undertake as an organisation, eventually leading
to a culture of innovation that will ensure our future sustainability. This
strategy is intended to strengthen our professionalism by doing everything
consistently and properly. This will reduce non-conformities, improve
quality, reduce rework and create a safer and more efficient organisation.
Knowledge management is another key driver for this project. We want to
document all the knowledge that is stored in people’s heads to assist with
on-boarding new employees, effectiveness of job handovers and to help minimise
knowledge losses on departures.
The project team are currently researching
process management improvement software, developing templates and strategies,
and formulating our approach to documentation (e.g. driven by risk exposure vs
best efficiency gains vs greatest need).
Any support, tips or guidance would be greatly
appreciated.
We look forward to hearing from you.
